Common questions for PC / Windows service at Mr Computer

Q: What will happen when I bring my PC in for service?

A: We’ll start by taking some time to talk with you about the problems you are experiencing with your computer. After check-in is complete, we will test your laptop or desktop and evaluate the health of the hardware components. This is an important step, as we can establish whether hardware or software is the cause of your issues. After the diagnosis is complete, we will contact you with the details, clearly outline your options, and recommend a course of action. Mr Computer will never suggest investing more into a machine than it is worth.

Q: What will be done as part of the diagnosis of my computer?

A: Our basic diagnosis ($70 for Economy – $90 for Express) includes thorough external testing and evaluation of your machine. Mr Computer will not dismantle a computer as part of a basic diagnostic. Fortunately, most computers do not need to be dismantled to complete a diagnosis. If a problem requires dismantling of your machine, hourly labor charges will apply in addition to our standard diagnosis charges.

Q: I already know what’s wrong, why do I need a diagnostic?

A: There are different levels of diagnostic that can be done on a computer system. Mr Computer ensures that a thorough Diagnostic is done by trained technicians. Some Computer problems may manifest themselves in a particular way and may seem like its cause by one piece of hardware when in fact it may be caused by software or another piece f hardware.

By performing a diagnosis of the entire machine, we can provide an effective warranty, which is limited to the issues we have actually worked on. We also keep this diagnostic information on our customer database so we have a base line for any future work we may do on your Computers.

Q: Will I lose my data during service?

A: Mr Computer will do everything possible to protect, recover and backup your important files. Some services performed do require that data be backed up or recovered, due to hard drive failure or operating system corruption / reinstallation. In these cases we will clearly communicate the processes and techniques we will be using to complete your service.

Q: Will I lose the programs that are installed on my computer?

A: Software applications are integrated into the operating system. In cases where a hard drive failure or operating system reinstallation is necessary, all programs will be lost and will have to be reinstalled, either from disc or by downloading the application(s) from the Internet. As part of our normal service, Mr Computer will install your core operating system and ensure that the computer is functional. We are not able to back up any software applications; we are only able to save files and data created by those programs. Unless directed to do so, we will not install any software above and beyond the basic operating system. Microsoft Windows does not include Microsoft Office. You may be asked by our technician for the Microsoft Key to allow them to reinstall the Windows Operating System.

If you want your applications re-installed we can do that for you as long as you provide all the software you need re-installed. This will be done at our standard Hourly Rate.

Mr Computer Technicians will not install any pirated software on your PC.
